Career after Commerce Graduation:  In today’s materialistic World, there is no denying saying that money is everything; hence Commerce has a huge scope today. There are a lot of options for Graduation like B.Com (Pass), B.Com (Honors), BBA, and BBS. But what after the first thing that comes to mind is – What should I do now?

Here are a few career options that one pursues Career after Commerce Graduation:

1. Chartered Accountancy

Most of the students opt for Commerce just to become a CA. However, with an uncertainty of the subject, students think to pursue post graduation, so that at least one of the degrees will be confirmed while pursuing a professional career. CA has a huge demand in today’s time from banking companies to Public Ltd. Companies to Auditing Firms to Finance Companies to Broking firms to Patent firms to Investment Houses and Copyright Firms etc.

Course Duration: 5 Years

Levels of CA: 

  • CPT (Common Proficiency Test): The CPT involves the quantitative aptitude test, mercantile laws, general economics, and accounting.
  • IPCC (Integrated Professional Competence Course): The IPCC has two groups covering the working knowledge of the core subjects. It is specially designed for improving the knowledge related to accounting standards.
  • FC (Final Course): The CA final course covers the advanced knowledge of financial reporting, management accounting, professional ethics, strategic financial management, information systems control and advanced auditing.

Eligibility and Admission: 

Though the minimum requirement is 50% in the 12th class to enrol for CA, however, post Graduation with the specified percentage of marks is exempted from appearing for the CPT exam. After passing the 1st  group of IPCC, the students undergo on-the-job training of 3 years called ‘articleship’ with an audit or accounts firm.

  • Exam attempt months: May and November
  • Minimum Salary Package: Minimum 25k and maximum can go up to 14 Lakhs for first rankers.
  • Top Recruiters: PWC, ENY, Deloitte and KPMG

2. Company Secretary Career after Commerce Graduation:

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India provides training to aspiring Company Secretaries that conduct the three-level program as well as authorized to certify an individual as a CS on successful completion of the course. The program includes three levels of training and examination: 

  • Foundation Programme
  • Executive Programme
  • Professional Programme

Enrollment Procedure

Those who wish to appear for the Foundation Programme examination in December (same year) must get themselves enrolled by March 31; and those who wish to appear in the June exam must enroll themselves by September 30.

Eligibility

  • Minimum qualification required to register for the first level (Foundation Programme) of Company Secretary Course in Class XII pass in any stream (excluding fine arts) from a recognized university or equivalent.
  • The candidate who wishes to pursue CS after Graduation will have to undergo only two levels: Executive Programme and Professional Programme.

Qualifying Marks

A candidate is declared to have passed the Foundation / Executive / Professional examination, if he/she secures 40% at one sitting a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and 50% marks in the aggregate of all subjects.

The time limit for completing CS Examination

Validity of registration can be renewed/extended further (3-5 years) on payment of requisite fee and fulfilling certain conditions. The medium of examination is English and Hindi as well, except Business Communication, the subject of the Foundation Programme).

3. Government jobs Career after Commerce Graduation:

Government jobs are best in terms of job security. Most Government jobs have less work stress, fixed working hours and a good pay structure. With this perks like housing, loans, medical, and childcare can be enjoyed. After completion of B.Com (Pass) and B.com (Honors), most of the students can apply for Government jobs like:

  • Civil Services Exams (IAS, IPS, IES),
  •  SSC CGL, 
  • Railway RRB Exams, 
  • Banking Exams (IBPS Clerk, IBPS PO, SBI PO, RBI etc.)

4. Banking Job

For becoming a banker, one needs to complete an internship and an investment banking program to get a license. Bankers offer customers a wealth of services. They have a huge role to play in initial banking requests such as setting up certificates of deposit and opening a checking or savings account as well as handling trusts, investment accounts, deposits, and much more. A banker needs to have great communication skills, should love to help people, possess great sales marketing knowledge and have multi-tasking proficiency.

  • IBPS PO 2020 Exam Date (Mains): 2nd week of November 2020
  • Result date for Mains 2020: 3rd week of November 2020
  • Call letters for interview downloading: 2nd week of December 2020
  • Date of IBPS PO Interview: 1st week of January 2021

5. Certified Management Accountant Career after Commerce Graduation:

If you wish to become a Cost Management Accountant, then CMA is one of the best courses to opt for.  This course comprises of three stages, i.e. CMA Foundation, CMA Intermediate and CMA Final. You can pursue this course through correspondence or online from an accredited university. 

Eligibility:

A graduate in any stream may apply for CMA Course

Exam date and form filling:

CMA examinations are conducted twice a year, in June and December. Students who are seeking to apply in December month are needed to apply latest by 30th June of the same year. Those who would like to apply for exams in June month are needed to apply by 31st December of the previous year.

6. Market Researcher Job:

The work of a market researcher is to study the market trend, and market competitors just before launching any new product. There are innumerable works of a market researcher, like meeting as well as liaising with clients to negotiate and agree on research projects. Analyzing and interpreting data to identify patterns and solutions, including surveys and focus group transcripts. Further, they can become senior researchers, research executives, account directors etc.

7. Law

No doubt, a law degree has a great career scope. But for that, you need to experience & understand the profession and skills. After attaining a bachelor’s degree with at least 50%, one is eligible to pursue law. One can pursue Integrated law right after 12 in BBA-LLB, BALLB, BSc LLB

The LLB course is divided into six semesters in most of the popular law universities and admission to the same is based on popular LLB Entrance Exams. The admissions commence in the month of January and of course, the entrance exam is conducted around the month of May. Some of these exams are:

  • AILET
  • LSAT
  • CLAT
  • TS – LAWCET
