CLAT 2026 what percentage is good?

CLAT 2026 What Percentage is Good? CLAT 2026 registration process will start soon, its 2025 counseling process started late due to court interference. But before you plan to appear for CLAT 2026, you must know what the minimum score is that will get you admission to any of the NLUs. The mark of 95+ out of 120 is necessary for admission to the top three NLUs, such as NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad, and WBNUJS Kolkata. For NLSIU Bangalore specifically, the expected cutoff is around 100–102 marks for the General category.

For other well-ranked NLUs, a score in the 85–95 range can be sufficient for General category candidates. For SC/ST categories, a score of 60–70 marks is generally considered good for securing a seat.

We should not forget that the region-wise percentage also matters, as the NLU gives importance to state-domicile candidates, and their percentage requirement is a little less.

Cutoffs may vary each year based on exam difficulty, number of applicants, and seat availability, so aiming higher than these benchmarks increases your chances

Domicile of the state provides a significant advantage in CLAT admissions at most National Law Universities (NLUs). Apart from NLU Jodhpur, nearly every NLU offers a certain percentage of seats reserved for candidates who are domiciled in the respective state where the NLU is located

To claim this advantage, you must:

  • Indicate your domicile status when filling out the CLAT application form.
  • Upload a valid domicile certificate issued by a recognized authority in your state

This reservation usually results in lower cutoffs for state domicile candidates compared to the all-India (open) category, making it easier for local students to secure admission in their home state’s NLU. The exact percentage of seats and eligibility criteria for domicile quota vary by NLU, so you should check the specific NLU’s admission policy for details
