JECA 2025 Score Calculation

Question Types & Marking Scheme:

  • Category I (Single correct option):
    • +1 mark for each correct answer
    • -0.25 mark for each incorrect answer
    • No mark for unanswered questions
    • Multiple answers: -0.25 mark (even one correct + other options marked is penalized)
  • Category II (Multiple correct options possible):
    • +2 marks for all correct options selected and no wrong options marked
    • Zero marks: for any wrong option marked
    • Partial marks: If you select only some correct options (and no wrong ones):
  • No negative marking in Category II

How to Calculate Your Raw Score

  • Compare your answers with the provisional/final answer key.
  • Apply the Category I and II marking rules to your responses for all questions.
  • Sum up the marks for your total raw score.

JECA 2025 Percentile Calculation

  • Percentile Score Formula:
  • Percentile shows your position relative to all candidates (not just your mark out of total).
  • Normalization:
If JECA is conducted in multiple sessions, normalisation used to equate scores. Otherwise, percentile is calculated directly from all scores in a single session.

Merit Rank List

  • Your General Merit Rank (GMR) is based on your percentile and overall score.
  • Category ranks are also there for reserved seat allotment.

In summary, your JECA 2025 raw score is calculated using both positive and negative marking for each question type, and your percentile represents your relative rank among all candidates—determining your place in the merit list and MCA seat allotments.

Step 1: Understand the Marking Scheme

CategoryQuestion TypeMarks for CorrectNegative MarksNotes
Category IOne correct option+1-0.25Only one correct answer per question
Category IIMultiple correct options+2 (if all marked correctly)0Partial marks possible if some correct options are selected and no wrong option marked

Partial marks formula for Category II:

where  = number of correct options marked,  = total correct options.

Step 2: Sample Section (using Answer Key)

Let’s consider a hypothetical 5-question sample:

QuestionCategoryCorrect Answer (from key)Your AnswerEvaluationMarks
1IAACorrect+1
2ICDIncorrect-0.25
3IB(unanswered)No attempt0
4IIA, CA, CAll correct+2
5IIB, DBOne correct option only+1 (Partial = 2 × 1/2)

Total Marks = 1 – 0.25 + 0 + 2 + 1 = 3.75

Step 3: Apply Across Entire Paper

Do the same for all questions:

  1. Separate the Category I and II questions.
  2. Tally all positive and negative marks.
  3. Add them up to get your raw total score out of 100.

Step 4: Estimate Percentile (after result release)

Percentile determines your relative performance:

Example: If your score is 75 and 8,500 out of 10,000 candidates scored ≤75, then:
 percentile.

Step 5: General Merit Rank Generation

  • WBJEEB arranges candidates by descending raw scores.
  • In case of a tie:
    1. Higher marks in Part B preferred.
    2. Fewer negative marks.
    3. Older candidate gets priority.

So, your final General Merit Rank (GMR) depends directly on your total marks and percentile.

Summary:

  • Add +1/-0.25 for Category I, use partial formula for Category II.
  • Sum all to get raw marks.
  • Convert your score into percentile for rank generation.
  • The higher the total marks, the better your rank and chance of MCA admission through JECA 2025.
