What does top 20 percentile mean in JEE Advanced Eligibility 2027?
Suppose thousands of students pass Class 12 from a particular board. The board’s successful candidates are ranked according to their marks. If your marks put you among the top 20% of successful candidates, you can satisfy this criterion. The cut-off is category-wise, and the relevant category is determined according to the prescribed central lists.
Which Five Subjects Are Used to Calculate the Aggregate?
For the 75%/65% aggregate criterion and related calculations, marks in these five subjects are considered:

What If a Subject Is Not Out of 100 Marks?
Don’t worry if your board uses a different maximum mark for a subject. If a subject is not evaluated out of 100, the marks will be scaled up or down to make the subject equivalent to 100 marks. Therefore, the final calculation for five subjects is made out of 500 marks.
What If Your Board Gives Grades Instead of Marks?
Some boards may provide letter grades rather than numerical marks. If the marksheet does not mention an equivalent percentage, the candidate must obtain a certificate from the concerned Board stating the equivalent marks. This certificate must be submitted when required for acceptance of the allocated seat. If the required certificate is not produced, the decision of the concerned JEE Advanced authority will be final.

How Is Top 20 Percentile Calculated?
The top 20 percentile cut-off is calculated using the marks of successful candidates who appeared for all the required subjects in the respective board in that particular year. The cut-off is calculated separately for different categories. For PwD candidates, the top 20 percentile cut-off will be the same as the lowest cut-off among GEN, OBC-NCL, SC and ST categories, as specified in the eligibility rules.
