WB Board Exams 2026 What Is New?
1) Calculator Ban – The WBCHSE has decided not to allow calculators in the Class 11 and 12 exams from 2026 onwards. Students will now have to demonstrate their calculation skills without a calculator. This rule will not apply to the 2025 candidates, who are following the old syllabus.
2) Syllabus Updates – Both the WBCHSE and WBBSE have added new topics to the syllabus and made it more manageable by removing some non-core chapters. WBCHSE and WBBSE included application-based questions and 30% MCQs in science subjects, in line with the National Education Policy 2020.
3) Changes in Exam Pattern – The Madhyamik (10th) exam pattern also includes internal assessment marks up to 20%. The duration of the exams is 3 hours and 15 minutes, including a 15-minute reading time.
4) Leave Rules for Teachers – The school authorities have introduced new child care and paternity leave rules for teachers in the Madhyamik 2026 exam center schools to ensure the smooth conduct of the exams
5) Evaluation and Marking System – The WBBSE has revised the grading system, setting the minimum passing marks at 25%.
6) Semester System – WBCHSE has implemented a semester system in Higher Secondary to help students prepare better for competitive exams.
