LIC AAO Specialist Syllabus 2025: AE Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Marking Scheme, Passing Marks

The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) will conduct the AAO Specialist Exam 2025 in two main stages. Firstly, the Preliminary Exam and Secondly, the Mains Exam. AAO Specialist Post Includes Charted Accountants, Company Secretary, Actuarial, Insurance Specialists, and Engineering. In 2025, LIC is conducting the exam in two main phases:

  1. Phase I: Preliminary Examination (Prelims)
  2. Phase II: Main Examination (Mains)

The preliminary exam is the first stage. It is an online test consisting of objective-type questions (multiple-choice questions).

Marking Scheme

  • There are three sections in the exam.
  • Each section has a separate time limit.
  • Total duration of the exam is 60 minutes.
  • There will be negative marking: For each wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted.
  • If you leave a question blank, no marks will be deducted.
  • Candidates must qualify in each section separately to move to the next round.
  • LIC will decide the cut-off marks.

Important Information About the English Section

  • The English Language section is only qualifying in nature. This means marks from this section will not be counted in your final Prelims score.
  • However, you must score the minimum cut-off marks in English to pass.
  • Candidates who qualify in the Prelims will be eligible for the Mains Exam.

Marking Scheme

  • Both tests will happen online in a single sitting.
  • There will be no negative marking in the Mains exam.
  • Candidates must qualify in each section separately.
  • The descriptive paper will be evaluated only if the candidate qualifies in the objective test.
  • The descriptive paper will have to be answered by typing on the computer.

Descriptive Professional KnowledgeCandidates need to write long answers or short notes related to their specialization. Example: definitions, explanations, case analysis.

The Prelims are the first stage of the LIC AAO (Legal) exam. It is an online test with objective-type (multiple choice) questions.

  • The exam has three sections.

  • The exam will be in English and Hindi, except for the English Language section.
  • There is negative marking: for every wrong answer, 0.25 marks are deducted.
  • If a question is left unanswered, no marks are deducted.

Important Information About the General Awareness Section

  • The General Awareness section is qualifying only; the marks from this section will not play a role in the ranking. But you still need to clear the minimum cut-off in this section.
  • The Prelims exam is just for shortlisting candidates for the Mains. Around 20 times the number of vacancies will be shortlisted for the Main Exam.

Candidates who qualify in the Prelims will appear for the Main Exam.

    2. Descriptive Test – 150 marks
  • Both tests will be online in a single sitting.
  • There will be no negative marking in the Mains exam.
  • Candidates must qualify in each section separately.
  • The Descriptive Test will be checked only if the candidate qualifies in the Objective Test.
  • The Descriptive Test will happen through typing on the computer.

  • Professional Knowledge Descriptive Paper is the most important part. Marks here will be normalized and counted for ranking.
  • English Descriptive Paper is only qualifying in nature. Its marks will not be counted in the ranking.
