Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is India’s national public procurement portal launched in 2016 by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It serves as a digital platform for central and state government ministries, departments, public sector undertakings, and local bodies to procure goods, services, and works from registered sellers, service providers, and contractors transparently and efficiently.
Key Features
GeM enables online bidding, reverse auctions, and demand aggregation for fair pricing. Buyers post requirements, while sellers list products with GSTIN verification; over 3 million products and services are available. No transaction fees apply, and it integrates with PFMS for direct payments.

This inclusivity is evident as a women-led clean energy firm from Vadodara delivers renewable solutions, or a Nagpur-based small enterprise supplies surveillance systems to the Central Government—proving that enterprise scale no longer limits access to opportunities.
MSE Participation
As of November 30, 2025, GeM hosts over 11.25 lakh registered MSE sellers, who have secured orders totaling ₹7.44 lakh crore—representing 44.8% of the platform’s overall order value and surpassing the mandatory 25% annual procurement target. This underscores the growing influence of smaller enterprises in public procurement.
Women-Led Growth
More than 2 lakh women-owned MSEs are active on GeM, achieving cumulative orders worth ₹78,066 crore. Programs like Womaniya bolster their involvement through onboarding, training, and enhanced access to procurement avenues.
