BCCI Invites Application for Selectors in Men’s and Women’s Cricket: Eligibility Criteria
First of all, the eligibility rules are very clear and remain the same as in previous years. To apply for these posts, a candidate must have played either: At least seven Test matches, or 30 first-class matches.
However, there is also an alternative rule. If a player has not met the above requirement, they can still apply if they have played either:
- At least 10 One Day Internationals (ODIs), or
- 20 first-class matches.
Therefore, BCCI has kept multiple options open for deserving candidates who have played enough cricket at the highest level.
Annual Renewal of Contracts
Next, it is important to note that the contracts of selectors are not permanent. Instead, they are renewed every year. A BCCI official confirmed this to the media and explained, “We have not yet identified which selectors will be replaced, but that process will be undertaken soon.”
Thus, even though two positions are open now, it is not yet clear which current selectors will leave the men’s panel. The new members will be announced after the evaluation is complete.
BCCI Invites Application for Selectors in Men’s and Women’s Cricket: Current Men’s Selection Committee
At present, the men’s national selection committee has five members. The group is currently headed by Ajit Agarkar, the former India fast bowler. Along with him, the panel includes SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra, and S Sharath. Recently, this team selected the Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup.
In addition to the senior men’s panel, the BCCI has also opened an application for the men’s junior selection committee.
Vacancies in Women’s Selection Committee
Furthermore, the BCCI has also invited applications for four positions in the women’s national selection committee. At present, the women’s committee has five members. The panel is led by Neetu David (Chairperson), and the other members are Renu Margrate, Arati Vaidya, Kalpana Venkatachar, and Shyama Dey Shaw.
Recently, this women’s panel met on Tuesday and selected the squad for the Women’s ODI World Cup, which will take place in India starting next month. Since four seats are open, new members will soon join the committee and help take Indian women’s cricket to greater heights.
Opportunity for Former Cricketers
This announcement creates a golden opportunity for many former cricketers. Since the eligibility criteria include both Tests and ODIs, many ex-players who represented India or played a large number of first-class matches now have a chance to serve Indian cricket again.
Moreover, the fact that BCCI has kept the rules unchanged shows that the board values experience and knowledge of the game. It wants selectors who have lived the pressures of international cricket and who can judge talent in a fair and professional way.
