Cochin Shipyard Limited GME Training 2026 – Eligibility, Fees, and Admission Guide

RPSC Upcoming exam dates in September and October 2025

Cochin Shipyard Limited is inviting applications for its one-year Pre-Sea Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) course. The January 2026 batch is now open for admission. The Marine Engineering Training Institute (METI), Cochin Shipyard, Kochi, will provide residential training and conduct the course in English. Students can also avail education loans from IDBI Bank, and candidates must possess a valid Indian passport. Sponsorship opportunities are available from reputed shipping companies such as MMSI, D’AMCO, Wilhelmsen, and Sima Marine.

The course trains only engineering graduates and provides comprehensive marine engineering education through classroom lessons, laboratory work, workshops, and onboard experience.

Cochin Shipyard One year pre-Sea GME Course

Cochin Shipyard is accepting applications for the one-year pre-sea GME course, fully approved by the Director General of Shipping, Government of India. The course admits only candidates with an engineering degree, and the shipyard clearly lists the eligible B.E./B.Tech courses for admission.

Educational Qualification

  • Candidate must have a B.E. or B.Tech degree with at least 50% marks.
  • Degree should be from a recognized university.
  • Degree must be obtained from:
    • Institutes approved by AICTE
    • Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)
    • University Engineering Colleges (colleges directly run by a university)
  • Only the following 3 categories of branches are eligible (as per administration rules).

Cochin Shipyard Limited GME Course & Eligibility  

Mechanical Engineering

  • Full-time B.E. or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
  • This is the standard Mechanical Engineering degree.

Mechanical Engineering With Another Degree

  • Full-time B.E. or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with another subject like Automation, Electronics, Automobiles, etc.
  • The word “Mechanical” must come first, showing Mechanical Engineering is the main subject, and the second subject is the elective.

Btech or BE Naval Architecture

  •  Full-time B.E. or B.Tech in Naval Architecture with another subject like Ocean Engineering, Ship Building, etc.
  • The word “Naval Architecture” must come first, meaning Naval Architecture is the main subject, and the second subject is the elective.

Marine Engineer

  • Full-time B.E. or B.Tech in Marine Engineering from AICTE or UGC approved colleges (even if not DGS approved).
  • Minimum 50% marks are required.

Physical Health

Apart from being mentally and physically fit, candidates must meet the following basic health standards:

Height and Weight

  • Minimum height: 157 cm.
  • Weight should be proportionate to height.
  • Chest measurements should be proportionate as well.

Eye Sight

  • Candidates must have normal vision.
  • No eye abnormalities are allowed.
  • Color blindness is not allowed.

Hearing

  • Hearing must be good.
  • Must meet the standards of ILO Convention 147.

Psychological Test

The Candidate must pass the psychological screening test (MMPE test) conducted on behalf of Directorate General of Shipping when required.

Sponsorship

Sponsorship is a letter from a Shipping Company or Manning Agency in India (with RPSL number) that promises to give you 6 months onboard training after you finish 12 months of GME Training.

  • You can show this Sponsorship Letter at the time of admission or within 6 months after joining GME Training.
  • During this time, METI/CSL may help you get sponsorship if they have arrangements with shipping companies.
  • If you do not get the Sponsorship Letterbefore finishing the course, METI/CSLcannot promise or provide onboard training after GME.

How To Apply

  1. Go to https://www.dgshipping.gov.in/maritimetraining.
  2. Click on Admission in Maritime Training Institute → Application.
  3. Fill in the form and submit it.
  4. You will get a DG Shipping Reference Number on your mobile.
  5. Visit https://www.cslmeti.in.
  6. Fill and submit the online application using that Reference Number.

Fee Refund and Cancellation

Before the course starts

  • If you decide not to join before the course begins, you must submit a written request to cancel.
  • Cancellation charges: ₹10,000 will be deducted from the fee you already paid.
  • The remaining money will be refunded to you.

After joining – within first 15 days

  • If you withdraw from the course within 15 days of starting:
  • 20% of the total fees will be kept as a deduction.
  • The rest of the fees will be refunded.

After 15 days or due to disciplinary issues

  • If you leave after 15 daysof course start, or if you areexpelled for disciplinary reasons,
  • You will not get any refund.

Medical withdrawal within first 15 days

  • If you need to withdraw within 15 days for medical reasons,
  • You may get a refund, but it depends on approval from CSL management.
  • Some fees may be deducted to cover expenses already spent on you by the institute.

Coaching Shipyard Limited Salary

CSL offers competitive salaries across various roles. For instance:

  • Technician Trainee: Approximately Rs. 10,200 per month
  • Manager: Up to Rs.1,47,716 per month
  • Marine Engineer: Around Rs. 60,000 per month

Items Provided by Training Institute (METI)

During training, students must wear the uniform provided by the institute. The institute gives safety shoes, helmet, socks, shirts, trousers, cap, epaulettes, sports dress, swimming trunk, and lodging items like bedsheets, pillow, towels, and mattress cover. Along with these, students have to bring some personal things on their own such as black derby shoes, white running shoes, black pants, orange boiler suits, innerwear, handkerchiefs, slippers, shoe brush, shoe polish (black and white), and a raincoat or umbrella. This confirm that all trainees are properly dressed, safe, and comfortable during the training period.

Important Instruction To Candidates

  • Do not keep gold or expensive items in the hostel.
  • Do not keep more than Rs. 500 cash. Use the SBI bank counter or ATM inside CSL campus.
  • Do not use any electrical items in the hostel.
  • Do not keep or use motor vehicles inside the hostel or campus.
  • You can use laptops and mobiles only inside the hostel. Wi-Fi is available.
  • You can go out of the campus only on Sundays from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
  • You are not allowed to stay outside at night.
  • You must follow all rules made by METI. Breaking rules or bad behavior may lead to dismissal.
  • If you never had chickenpox before, you must take the vaccine before joining CSL METI.
