The application form is open for a PhD in various departments or faculties.
The candidates are in Group A and Group B. The Category A candidates are those who have GATE/NET/GPAT/PGETA/CAT/CMAT/GMAT scores and other candidates are in Category B.

For group B, AKTU will conduct the entrance test and this entrance test is also meant for availing Homi Bhaba fellowship. And both the candidates of Category A and Category B can sit in this exam.

Category A
(ForNon-Fellowship aspirants only)
A candidate who has qualified in any one of these entrance tests in relevant disciplines and GATE/NET/CAT/CMAT/GPAT/ PGETA/Appropriate National Level Examination (in the relevant discipline)/ subjects with a valid score.
These candidates get the exemption from appearing in the PhD entrance examination of the university, as per the Table below. The selection process of such candidates is on basis of an Interview only

In case of NET candidates, only NET Category-1 (NET JRF) shall be eligible for the fellowship scheme of UGC, as per UGC norms. In the case the candidate has qualified NET under Category-2 and Category-3, they shall be eligible for PhD admission under the Non-fellowship scheme of the university.
If a candidate wishes to opt for AKTU Homi Bhabha Fellowship (offered only for Faculty of Engg & Technology, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Architecture & Planning), he/she needs to apply under Category-B
Category B
For other candidates, who are not under Category A, the candidates will have to appear in the entrance examination ,as per the eligibility given in AKTU PhD ordinance. There shall be a multiple choice objective nature test for such candidates who are seeking admission to the Ph.D. programme of the University

Syllabus
The syllabi for papers on respective subject domains shall be GATE/GPAT/NET/CAT /PGETA/ Appropriate National Level Examination. The shortlisted candidates from written examination shall appear for Interview
Merit List
The merit list of Category A and Category B shall be prepared separately. For Category A, the merit list shall be on the basis of the interview. For Category B, 70% weightage in the written exam and 30% weightage of the interview; shall finalise the merit list.

Local Area Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination from an institution located in the State of U.P. and are domiciled in U.P., and belong to the Schedule Caste (SC) of U.P. / Schedule Tribe (ST) of U.P. / Other Backwards Classes of U.P. are eligible for the benefits available for reserved category candidates.
