Rashtriya Military Schools admission 2026-The application form will open on 10 September for admission to Class VI and Class IX for the next academic year 2026. The RMS are English medium residential Public Schools by the Ministry of Defence to impart quality education to the wards of defence personnel and civilians from Classes VI to XII.
These Schools are the founding members of the Indian Public Schools’ Conference (IPSC). Established in the year 1925, these Schools are among the oldest Public Schools in India. There are five Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS) located at Chail in the Shimla Hills of Himachal Pradesh, Ajmer and Dholpur in Rajasthan, Belgaum and Bengaluru in Karnataka.
The admission is on the basis of a written test and interview for the participant. First, they will clear the OMR-based test, and those who qualify will appear for the interview,an which is the last stage of admission

Eligibility for Admission
Students must read the eligibility condition properly before applying to these schools. The common admission test will take in December for admission class VI and IX.
Age
For class VI- the students not be less than 10 years and not more than 12 years till 31 March of the next year
For class IX: the student should be at least 13 years and not more than 15 years as on 31 March
Parents/students should also note that all admissions are in the category of Boarders only. No day scholars allowed. Admissions are exclusively for boys.
Reservation
The reservation will apply here, too. 70 per cent of seats are for the wards of serving and retired JCO or those who are in the army, navy and air force.
30 per cent are for the wards of officers and civilians
27%,15 %and7.5%of the seats in each category (excluding Officer Category)are reserved for OBC Non-creamy layer, SC, ST candidates respectively.
A total of 50 seats (Not more than 15 in either of the schools) are for wards of personnel killed in action.
Admission Test: The CET written examination for Class VI & Class IX will be through an Optical Mark Reader (OMR) based examination, and the scheme of marking for these papers is below

Syllabus :
Syllabus for class VI entrance is of class V standard, and for IX class syllabus it is of VIII(8)standard.The entrance test language will be in Hindi or English.
Interview:
The last stage for admission is an interview and students who qualify in the written test will appear for an interview at any one of the Rashtriya military schools.. Marks of the interview will be added to the score of the written test before deciding the final merit. Students will not get any travelling allowance for appearing in the Common Entrance Test or the interview.
Result:
The merit list prepared will be available on the website, and no personal intimation to the students. Students must check on the official website www.rashtriyamilitaryschools.edu.
Final Selection: Candidates selected in order of merit on the basis of total marks secured by them in the admission test and the interview, these students will get admission to any Rashtriya Military Schools based on availability of vacancies, medical fitness and as per the reservations norms laid down for various categories. Qualified candidates will be allotted school purely on the basis of Merit and vacancy available in school.

You must understand there are not too many seats in these schools above 70 per cent are reserved for JCOs so the total seats are 20 to 25.
