Why Candidates fail in First attempt?

Most UPSC CSE aspirants fail in their first attempt due to poor strategy, inconsistent execution, and common preparation pitfalls rather than lack of intelligence or effort.

Key Reasons

  • Unrealistic Plans and Perfectionism: Aspirants create rigid schedules they can’t sustain, leading to burnout, incomplete syllabus coverage, and constant catch-up mode.
  • No Practice Focus: Skipping mock tests, answer writing, and PYQs results in exam-day panic; weak Prelims strategy (over/under-attempting) and unstructured Mains answers cost crucial marks.
  • Resource Overload: Reading too many books without revision or NCERT foundation; ignoring CSAT or current affairs integration.

Other Reason

  • Syllabus Misalignment: Treating UPSC like regular exams, neglecting high-yield topics or interview prep.
