Banaras Hindu University to implement NEP 2020 from Academic session 2024–25

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is gearing up for a significant transformation as it prepares to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 from the academic session 2024–25. This decision underscores BHU’s commitment to modernizing its educational framework in alignment with the progressive reforms outlined in the NEP.

The university council proposed the implementation of the four-year undergraduate program for honours and research. According to the university council, only 10% of the total students with scores of 7.5 CGPA and above will be allowed UG honours with research on merit.

BHU is revolutionizing its academic landscape by offering a unique opportunity to undergraduates who complete Honours with Research. Under this innovative plan, students will have direct eligibility for PhD programs, bypassing the need for a traditional postgraduate degree. This streamlined pathway not only saves time but also empowers students to delve deeper into their research interests at an earlier stage in their academic journey.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is a comprehensive framework for reforming the education system in India. It was approved by the Union Cabinet of India on July 29, 2020, and aims to overhaul the entire education ecosystem, from early childhood care and education to higher education. The NEP 2020 is the first education policy of the 21st century and replaces the previous National Policy on Education, 1986.
