First Digital Post Office in J & K
Jammu & Kashmir marked a key milestone with the launch of its first Gen Z Post Office at AIIMS Vijaypur campus. This initiative by the Department of Posts modernizes traditional facilities into tech-savvy, youth-focused hubs. AIIMS Vijaypur now leads as the first AIIMS in India to feature one.
First Digital Post Office Key Features
The Gen Z Post Office integrates digital tools for seamless services like banking, e-commerce, and parcel tracking, appealing to younger users. It supports the department’s push for innovative, accessible postal networks on educational campuses.
Significance
This development enhances convenience for students and staff at AIIMS Vijaypur while setting a national precedent for post office upgrades. It aligns with broader efforts to blend technology with everyday postal operations in remote areas like J&K.
Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Vijaypur, inaugurated the first Gen Z Post Office in Jammu & Kashmir on December 17, 2025, alongside Chief Postmaster General D. S. Youth-Focused Design
Tailored for Generation Z, the post office offers a modern vibe with digital payments, streamlined services, and one-stop access to postal, banking, and insurance options.
Commemorative Event
A special postal cancellation marked the occasion as the inaugural Gen Z facility in the J&K Circle, applied to all outgoing mail from AIIMS Vijaypur that day.
The Gen Z Post Office boosts awareness of postal savings schemes, India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) digital banking, and value-added services for AIIMS Vijaypur’s students, healthcare professionals, and community.
Strategic Goals
This setup strengthens campus public services through Department of Posts and AIIMS Vijaypur collaboration, emphasizing innovation, inclusivity, and customer focus.
