BA LLB (5-Year Integrated Programme)

AIL Mohali Seat Allocation

Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, and All India Category seats will be filled through the AIL LET (Army Institute of Law Entrance Test).

Punjab Category seats will be allotted through centralized counselling conducted by GNDU, Amritsar. Candidates should refer to the official Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar website for detailed counselling information.

In case seats reserved under the Indian Navy (IN) or Indian Air Force (IAF) categories remain vacant, such seats will be transferred to the Indian Army category.

One seat in each programme — BA LLB and BCom LLB — is reserved for wards of the Royal Bhutan Army (RBA). If no eligible candidate applies under the RBA category, the seat will revert to the Army Category of the respective course for admission purposes.

AIL LET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination from the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) or any other equivalent board recognized by Punjabi University, Patiala, with at least 45% aggregate marks.

Candidates who obtained 10+2 directly through an Open University system without the required basic educational qualifications are not eligible for admission to the law programmes.

2. Appearing Candidates

Students appearing in their qualifying examination in 2026 can apply for AIL LET 2026 provisionally. However, admission will be canceled if they fail to pass the final examination with the required minimum marks.

3. Equivalence Certificate Requirement

If a candidate has passed the qualifying examination from a Board/University not recognized as equivalent by Punjabi University, Patiala, they must produce an Eligibility Certificate from Punjabi University during the admission/interview process. Failure to submit the certificate may lead to rejection of candidature.

4. Delayed Result Cases

Candidates whose board examination results are delayed should ensure that their Board/University sends a confidential result directly to the Principal, Army Institute of Law, Mohali. The candidate is responsible for timely dispatch of the result. Late receipt of results may make the candidate ineligible for admission.

5. Punjab Domicile Rule

Candidates having Punjab Domicile are eligible to apply only under the Punjab Category and cannot apply under the All India General Category.

AIL LET 2026 Exam Notes

The AIL LET 2026 question paper will consist of objective-type (MCQ) questions based on the level generally expected from Class 12 (10+2) students.

There will be no negative marking in the entrance examination. Candidates must secure a minimum of 25% marks to qualify in the test.

The medium of the entrance examination will be English.

In case two or more candidates obtain the same marks in the final merit list, preference will be given to the candidate with higher marks in the qualifying examination (10+2). If the tie still remains, the older candidate by age will be given preference.

Common Eligibility Criteria for Wards of IA, IN & IAF Personnel (Brief)

1. Basic Eligibility for Defence Wards

Candidates seeking admission under the Indian Army (IA), Indian Navy (IN), or Indian Air Force (IAF) categories must be children of serving personnel, ex-servicemen, or pensioners meeting the prescribed service requirements, generally including 10 years of service or pension eligibility.

2. Eligibility of Adopted, Step & Remarried Family Children

Adopted children, stepchildren, and children of remarried widows may be eligible subject to specified conditions and submission of the required certificates. Eligibility depends on the defence service background of the parent(s).

3. Special Category Eligibility

Special provisions are available for children of Army Postal Services (APS), Military Nursing Service (MNS), and Territorial Army (TA) personnel, provided the parent fulfills the minimum service or pension conditions.

4. Ineligible Candidates

Candidates not falling under the approved defence categories on the date of commencement of the course are not eligible. Applicants already holding an equivalent qualification for the same course may also be ineligible.

5. Definition of Dependent Children

For admission purposes, a son is treated as dependent up to 25 years of age or until employment, whichever is earlier, while a daughter is considered dependent until marriage or employment, whichever occurs first.

Weightage / Additional Marks for Defence Categories (Brief)

Eligible candidates from certain defence backgrounds are granted weightage benefits during admission.

  • Gallantry Award Winners’ Children: Additional weightage is provided for children of recipients of honours such as Param Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Mahavir Chakra, Vir Chakra, Shaurya Chakra, and other gallantry medals.
  • War Widows & Orphaned Children: Special weightage is available for war widows’ children and orphaned children.
  • Battle Casualties & Disabled Personnel: Benefits are provided to children of defence personnel who became battle casualties, disabled in action, or medically boarded out.
  • Physical Casualties in Service: Weightage is also available for children of personnel who died or were disabled during service, with or without attribution to military service.

Candidates claiming eligibility or weightage must submit the prescribed supporting certificates and documents during the admission process.
