About New Sainik Schools (NSS)

AISSEE 2026 Educational Qualification
For Admission Into Class VI
- Age between 10 and 12 years (dated on March 31, 2026)
- Students’ birth dates must be between April 1, 2014, and March 31, 2016. Students born on the same dates as those listed can also apply.
- Girls Can Also Apply.
For Admission Into Class IX
- Age between 13 and 15 years (dated on March 31, 2026)
- Students’ birth dates must be between April 1, 2011, and March 31, 2013. Students born on the same dates as those listed can also apply.

- Class VIII must Have Passed. (Its necessary at the time of admission).

AISSEE 2026 Merit List
The Admission of candidates will be carried out on the basis of e-counselling as per rank secured by the candidates in the Merit List of AISSEE 2025, Medical fitness approved by competent medical authorities and verification of original documents.
AISSEE 2026 Multiple Admission Pathways for NSS
NSS Entry – 40 Percent Route Category A
- 40% Route (Category ‘A’) – Minimum 40% of the seats under the Sainik School Stream in approved NSSs will be filled on the basis of the rank secured in the All India Merit List of AISSEE 2025.
- In Expend form – A minimum of 40% (Category ‘A’) of the seats will be filled by drawing candidates who appear and qualify in the AISSE Examination conducted by NTA and are desirous of taking admission to the New Sainik School through the merit list of AISSEE conducted by NTA.
- Domicile/ Category are not considered for this merit list (except for Kranthiveera Sangolli Rayanna Sainik School, Belagavi).
- Candidates can opt for any NSS in India, at the time of counselling.
NSS Entry – 60 Percent Route Category B
- 60% of the seats in NSSs will be filled by those who are currently studying in any of the approved NSSs.
- A maximum of 60% (Category ‘B’) of the total number of seats may be filled by Students already enrolled in that School, based on a qualifying test conducted by NTA or any other appropriate testing body as prescribed by SSS to be taken by students of Class V of the same school who are willing to take admission in Sainik School Vertical.
- They will fill on the basis of rank secured in School Wise Merit List.
- Domicil/ Category are not consider for this Merit List.
Filling Vacancies with Category ‘A’ Students
If seats remain vacant in a school for Category ‘B’ students (i.e., students who are already in the school), then those vacant seats will fill by Category ‘A’ students.
- This for only if those students appear and clear the AISSE exam (which is conduct by NTA).
- Admission will depend on the merit list of AISSEE exam.
- That is, the vacant seats will give to eligible and willing students of Category ‘A’.
