Territorial Army officer Mode of Selection: The application form will start on May 12 for the appointment of Officers in Indian Army Territorial services. There are less number of vacancies here but candidates can serve the country with pride and handsome packages as offered by Indian Army.
Selection Process
It has a two-stage selection procedure – Psychological Aptitude Test and the Intelligence Test (Service Selection Boards). All the candidates will be on stage on the first day of reporting at the Selection Centres. Only after clearing the first stage, candidates will move to the second stage. Otherwise, they will head back home. The male and female candidates will be in separate orders of merit on the basis of the total marks in the online entrance examination and in the SSB tests.

Territorial Army Officer: Mode of Selection
- Online Entrance Examination: A CBT mode assessing reasoning, elementary mathematics, general knowledge, and English language skills.
- Preliminary Interview Board (PIB): SSB interview those who clear the preliminary CBT mode will be called for an interview conducted by a Preliminary Interview Board to assess their suitability for the commission.
- SSB interview, which evaluates psychological aptitude, leadership qualities, and overall personality through various tests over several days.
- Medical Examiation: Candidates who are selected will undergo a comprehensive medical examination to ensure they meet the medical standards required for commission in the Territorial Army.
Who Cannot Apply?
Serving members of the Regular Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, GREF, Paramilitary, and similar forces are not eligible to apply.
Training
Selected candidates will undergo basic military training to familiarise themselves with military duties and responsibilities. As part-time soldiers, Territorial Army personnel must serve for a few days every year, including annual training camps and other military duties as assigned.
- Six months Pre-Commission Training
- A two-month annual training camp every year.
This structure allows individuals to continue their civilian careers while contributing to national defense.
What is the Territorial Army?
Territorial Army is a part-time concept with mandatory two months of training a year and does not provide a full-time career. Serving in Territorial Army do not guarantee pension and the same is subject to embodied service as per organisational requirement.
Commission is granted in the rank of Lieutenant. Pay allowances and privileges will be the same as Regular Army Officers when embodied for training and military service.
Promotions up to Lt Col by time scale, subject to fulfilling laid down criteria. Promotion to Colonel and Brigadier by selection. Officers commissioned in the Territorial Army will likely need to take military service for a longer duration, depending on the requirement
Territorial Army Officer: Documents at the time of the SSB Stage
Candidates who qualify in the online entrance exam (CBT) must bring the following documents in original along with self-attested copies at the time of SSB Interview.
(a) Application Form IAF (TA)-9 (Revised) Part-2 from www.jointerritorialarmy.gov.in and fill it up in their own handwriting.
(b) All educational qualification certificates (Matric onwards).
(c) Copy of identity proof with photographs (Voter ID/PAN Card/ Passport/ Driving license/Aadhaar etc).
(d) Proof of residential address.
(e) Certificate for proof of age (Matric/ Senior Secondary mark sheet and certificate for verification of date of birth).
(f) Candidates whose names vary in documents should submit a copy of the Gazette notification of India/ State showing the correct name or an affidavit duly supported by newspaper cuttings.
(g) Latest income proof from the appropriate authority (i.e., Income Tax Revenue Department / Magistrate / Employer).
(h) Copy of latest Income Tax Return (ITR) filed.
(j) Self-employed candidates are required to submit an Affidavit on Non-Judicial stamp paper of minimum value, duly attested, stating the nature of employment and annual income, along with a photocopy of PAN card and self-certified character certificate
