UGC NET Exam Date Change

Dear UGC NET aspirants, University Grants Commission (UGC) has changed the date of UGC NET from 16 June 2024 to 18June 2024. It has been due to the clash of Dates of Civil Service Preliminary Exam and UGC NET. Therefore, many students sent the letter to UGC and after receiving a number of application or feedback from students, UGC made this change in the date of examination. Now the exam for UGC NET for June Session 2024 will be held on 18th June 2024.

The exam will be held in OMR mode across India on a single day through offline mode (Paper-Pencil mode) Earlier, the exam was held Computer Based Test (Online) on various dates. But this time exam will be held on a single day.

What is UGC NET JRF?

The National Eligibility Test (Junior Research Fellowship) is a national-level exam conducted by the National Testing Agency on behalf of the University Grants Commission twice a year (June and January sessions) to determine the eligibility of candidates for

  • Assistant Professor only
  • Junior Research Fellowship only and
  • For both junior fellowships and assistant professors. Through the UGC NET exam, candidates are eligible for the posts of assistant professor in Indian universities and colleges. The UGC NET-JRF exam will be held for a total of 83 subjects.

This exam was conducted by University Grants Commission till 2017, Until June 2018, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the NET exam on behalf of UGC. Now UGC NET exam has been conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) since December 2018.

New Updates for UGC NET for PhD Admission 2024–25

The University Grants Commission has decided, based on the Expert Committee’s recommendations in its 578th meeting held on March 13, 2024, that from the academic session 2024–25, the NET score can be used for admission to PhD programmes in place of entrance tests conducted by the different universities and HEIs. From June 2024 onwards, therefore, the NET candidates will be declared eligible in three categories, as follows:

Category-1 Eligible for (i) Admission to PhD with Award of JRF and (ii) appointment as an assistant professor

Category-2 Eligible to (i) Admission to PhD without JRF, (ii) Appointment as an assistant professor,

Category-3 Eligible to (i) Admission to PhD programme only and not for the award of JRF or appointment as an assistant professor

Candidates who will qualify for the UGC NET exam fall into the following categories:

Category-1

They will be eligible for admission to PhD with a stipend of Rs. 47823 per month (for the initial 2 years as a Junior Research Fellowship) and Rs. 52823 (from the 3rd year and onwards as a Senior Research Fellowship) to complete their research in a specific field. Candidates with this category are also eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor in different universities along with a research scholar

Category II

Candidates who qualify for the UGC NET exam under the category 2 will be eligible for admission to PhD without any stipend. However, they can apply for Non-NET Fellowship from their Universities after enrolling in PhD programme. They are also eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor in different university along with a research scholar

Category III

Candidates who qualify for the UGC NET exam under the category-3 will be eligible for admission to PhD without any stipend. However, they can apply for Non-NET Fellowship from their Universities after enrolled in PhD programme. They are not eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor. 

Old Rules:

Earlier UGC NET was conducted for the Junior research Fellowship which helps candidates to seek admission to PhD programmes. Through JRF candidates were eligible to get a stipend of Rs.37000, Rs.7500 HRA and Contingency of Rs. 10000 annually (for initial 2 years) while for SRF Rs. 35000, Rs.7500 HRA and Contingency of Rs. 10000 annually (for rest of 3 years) to complete their research and eligibility of the Assistant Professor in Indian Universities and colleges

Interested candidates can apply for UGC NET JRF 2024. The application process is open on the 2nd week of April 2024 and closes on 1st week of May 2024.

UGC NET JRF Educational Qualification

  • Master’s degree in related subject from a recognized university, with 55% for unreserved categories and 50% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD and Third Gender
  • Candidates appearing in and awaiting results for their final year examination for a Master’s Degree are also eligible to apply online for the UGC NET 2024.
  • that the students who have been completed Four Year Under-Graduated (8 semester) programme or appearing in final semester / year (8th semester) of four-year under-graduated programme is also eligible for UGC-NET July 2024.
  • Students are allowed for UGC-NET in a subject in which they want to pursue a Ph.D. irrespective of the Discipline in which they have obtained the Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree programme.

UGC NET JRF Qualifying Marks:

  • The Minimum Qualifying marks for each paper shall be 40%
  • 5% Relaxation for SC/ST candidates.

Paper-I Examination:

Paper 1 will include 10 sections such as 1Teaching aptitude,2 Research aptitude,3 Comprehension, 4 Communication,5 Numerical and reasoning aptitude, 6 Logical reasoning, 7 Data interpretation, 8 Information and Communication Technology, 9 People, Development and Environment & 10 Higher Education

Paper-II Examination:

Paper -2 will have 100 questions. It will be conducted for 83 subjects.

UGC NET JRF Marking Scheme
  • There will total 150 questions 50 for paper – 1 and 100 for paper – 2
  • There will be 2 marks for each right answer
  • Each question has 4-Options.
  • There will be no negative marking for any wrong answer

UGC NET JRF How to Apply

1. First, Open Your Chrom and visit on the official website www.ugcnet.nta.ac.in.

2. Now, find navigation window at homepage and click on the “UGC NET 2024”

4. Click on the ‘Apply Online’ link.

5. Now, fill your name, phone no. etc. for Registration and Registered yourself.

6. After doing this now, candidates should fill the online application form with all personal information as required in the form.

7. Now, upload all the required Scan documents including Photographs, Signatures, Certificates, etc.

8. pay the application fee via online payment mode.

9. On the completion of all the steps mentioned above, an auto-generated mail will be sent to the candidate’s email ID.

10. After submission, take a printout of your application for future Reference
