What is the Certificate of Practice (CoP)?

The Certificate of Practice (CoP) is an official document issued by the Bar Council of India (BCI) to law graduates who successfully clear the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). This certificate is mandatory for advocates to practice law in Indian courts. Without the CoP, a law graduate cannot represent clients, appear in court, or enjoy the benefits and rights of a practicing advocate in India

Note

The Candidates who want to have their results/OMR sheets rechecked can fill the online application form by visiting website i.e www.allindiabarexamination.com for rechecking of the OMR sheet. The Candidates must pay an online fee of Rs 500/- for the re-checking of their OMR sheet.

Eligibility for AIBE 19 CoP

To obtain the AIBE 19 CoP, you must:

  • Hold a recognized 3-year or 5-year LLB degree from a BCI-approved institution.
  • Register with your respective State Bar Council and obtain a provisional enrollment number.
  • Successfully clear the AIBE 19 exam by meeting or exceeding the cutoff marks (45% for General/OBC, 40% for SC/ST categories)

  • The AIBE 19 CoP is scheduled for distribution by August 2025.
  • Eligible candidates can collect their CoP from their respective State Bar Councils24.

  3. Submit CoP Application
    1. Locate the “Apply for Certificate of Practice” section on your State Bar Council’s portal.
