SBI Exams – State Bank of India is our country’s largest banking and financial services organization. With more than 16,000 branches across India, it has an asset base of Rs 20,00,000 crores – about 20% of the overall asset base of the Indian banking industry.
Women employees make 20% of the total workforce of the SBI bank. It is also the only public sector bank to allow women employees to take up to 2 years of sabbatical leave for education, childcare, and other personal commitments.
SBI Exams – SBI recruits people for 1,000+ different roles across different businesses. It allows you job rotation every 2-3 years to keep boredom out of your work and help you get unparalleled exposure to a wide spectrum of business functions. It means that you can work as a Relationship Manager for a few years, become a Dealer in Treasury, and then move on to handling a Retail branch later. Different Types of Job Roles at SBI through SBI Exams
The different career opportunities at which SBI hires candidates can be classified into four main categories:
Probationary Officers (PO): Young graduates are hired as Probationary Officers as a direct entry to the Junior Management level. They get challenging assignments and opportunities to work in pioneering technical and financial activities of the banking industry, such as Credit, Forex, Treasure, Rural Banking, etc.
Junior Associates or Clerks: Junior Associates work at the Clerical Grade. SBI offers fast-track growth opportunities and clerks become eligible for promotion to Officer Grade after 3 years.
Lateral Hire in Various Grades: Specialists like Chartered Accountants, Lawyers, System Engineers, Analysts, Rajbhasha Officers, Risk Raters, Economists, etc. are hired laterally by SBI in various grades.

Management Trainees on a 5-Year Contract: Management graduates from top business institutes like IIMs are hired for different verticals in the bank for 5 years on a contractual basis. They work as trainees in their first year and from the second year onwards, they are promoted to the designation of Assistant Vice President.

Recruitment notifications for Probationary Officers for SBI and its Associate Banks are usually announced in April and September of every year. Only Indian citizens can apply for PO jobs in SBI and they should be ready to be posted anywhere in India.
Those who have a graduate degree in any discipline or those who are in the final year or semester of their graduation can apply for PO positions. However, if those in the last year or semester of their graduation get selected, they will have to produce proof of passing their graduation exams successfully by the cut-off date mentioned in the advertisement.
Candidates between 21 and 30 years of age can apply for SBI PO recruitments. Reserved category candidates get some relaxation in the upper age limit though. OBC candidates from the non-creamy layer get a relaxation of 3 years. SC, ST, ex-servicemen, and JK-domicile candidates get a relaxation of 5 years. Persons with Disabilities get a relaxation of 10 years.
Normally, candidates get 4 attempts to clear PO exams. PWD and OBC candidates get 7 attempts. SC, ST candidates get unlimited attempts to clear the exam.

SBI PO examination is conducted in three phases:

Phase I or Preliminary Examination: Candidates need to clear it to appear for the next phase but its marks are not added to the final merit list.
Phase II or Main Examination: It includes objective tests and a descriptive test. The scores of the exam are converted to out of 75 while being added to the final list.
Phase III or Group Discussion & Interview: GD & Interview marks are converted out of 25 in the merit list.
Candidates are selected on the basis of the final merit list.
Junior Associates or Clerks
SBI recruits Junior Associates or clerks for SBI and its Associate Banks separately. Indian citizens who are graduates can apply for these jobs. Ex-servicemen who have served in the Indian Army, Navy or Airforce for 15 years, have obtained Special Certificate of Education, and can communicate in English can also apply for these jobs.
Candidates between 20 and 28 years of age can apply for SBI clerical jobs. Upper age limits are relaxed for reserved category candidates.

The SBI exam for Junior Associates also has three stages:

Preliminary Examination: It is an Objective test conducted online. It is worth 100 marks and has a duration of 1 hour. Those who qualify at this stage have to appear for the next exam.
Main Examination: This is also an online exam with objective questions. It is worth 200 marks. Candidates who clear this exam are called for an interview.
Interview and Final Selection: Candidates who score more than the minimum percentage marks are eligible to be included in the final merit list. The final selection is made on the basis of the marks obtained in the Main Exam and the Interview.

Lateral Hire in Various Grades
Lateral hiring is done for posts like Chartered Accountant, Economist, System Officer, Security Officer, Rajbhasha Officers, Law Officers, Civil Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Network Engineers, Risk Analysts, Fire Officers, Medical Officers, etc.
Only Indian citizens can apply for these jobs. Educational qualifications, experience, and age limits vary according to the posts advertised by SBI. The exams for these posts are conducted online. If the number of applications is less, they are scrutinised and shortlisted by a Shortlisting Committee and candidates are called for the interview directly – without a test.

Management Trainees on a 5-Year Contract
With the entry of private banks, the competition in the banking and financial services market has increased considerably. Hence, SBI hires management trainees on a contractual basis for five years. SBI visits campus recruitment drives of top Business Schools in India to find the best talent in specialized areas like Credit, Treasure, Marketing, Investment Banking, Finance, etc.
Candidates are selected through SBI Exams on the basis of a Test or Group Discussion followed by Personal Interview rounds.
