Based on recent trends (e.g., the June 2025 cycle results were declared about 22–23 days after the exam ended)
The UGC NET December 2025 result is expected in the last week of January 2026 (likely between January 25–31, 2026) or possibly early February 2026 if there’s any delay.
- No official exact date has been announced yet by NTA.
Where to check the result (once declared):
- Visit the official website: ugcnet.nta.ac.in or ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
- Look for the “UGC NET December 2025 Result” or “Scorecard” link on the homepage.
- Log in using your application number and date of birth (or password) to view/download your scorecard.
- The result will include qualifying status (for JRF, Assistant Professor, or PhD admission), marks, cutoff (subject/category-wise), etc.
Qualifying Criteria
- Qualifying criteria: 40% aggregate in both papers for General/EWS; 35% for reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD/Third gender).
- NET scores are valid for lifetime (for Assistant Professor eligibility) and 3–5 years for JRF/PhD (depending on rules).
- Certificates for qualified candidates are issued later via the portal.
The qualifying marks (also called minimum qualifying percentage or aggregate marks) for UGC NET December 2025 cycle remain the same as in previous cycles, as per official NTA/UGC norms. These are the minimum aggregate percentage required across both Paper 1 and Paper 2 combined (total 300 marks) to be considered for qualification. Candidates must secure at least these percentages in aggregate to qualify—there is no separate cutoff per paper, but both papers contribute to the total.
Minimum Qualifying Percentage (Aggregate)
- General / Unreserved / EWS: 40% aggregate (minimum 120 marks out of 300)
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) / SC / ST / PwD / Third Gender / Transgender: 35% aggregate (minimum 105 marks out of 300)
Key points:
- These are the threshold to be eligible for consideration in the merit list or cutoff process. Scoring below this disqualifies a candidate entirely, regardless of performance in individual papers.
- Qualification for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or Assistant Professor eligibility depends on:
- Meeting the above minimum aggregate.
- Then, securing marks equal to or above the subject-wise and category-wise cutoff (merit-based, released along with results).
- The cutoff (higher than the minimum qualifying marks) varies by subject, category, and vacancy factors. It determines actual qualification for JRF (top merit) or Assistant Professor (lower merit tier).
- For PhD admission only (in some cases), the criteria may align with Assistant Professor eligibility.
UGC PhD Admission Categories
UGC NET qualifiers receive different eligibilities for JRF, Assistant Professor roles, and PhD admissions based on their qualification category.
Eligibility
| Category | Qualified for JRF | Eligible for Assistant Professor | Ph.D. Admission |
| Category-1: Award of JRF and appointment as Assistant Professor | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Category-2: Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. | No | Yes | Yes |
| Category-3: Admission to Ph.D. only | No | No | Yes |
JRF-qualified candidates gain PhD admission through an interview per UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of PhD Degree) Regulations, 2022. UGC NET Category-2 and Category-3 qualifiers may use NET scores instead of university entrance tests, with 70% weightage on NET marks and 30% on interview/viva voce by the HEI; admission follows combined merit. NET marks for these categories remain valid for one year from result declaration, issued in percentiles with normalized scores via equi-percentile method for multi-shift tests.
Fellowship Selection
Specific fellowships like National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste (NFSC), Other Backward Classes (NFOBC), and Persons with Disabilities (NFPwD) undergo selection by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Data Sharing
UGC/NTA shares UGC-NET candidate data with HEIs for PhD admissions and PSUs/organizations for recruitment.
