The Joint Entrance Examination JEE Main 2027 consists of two papers designed for admission to different undergraduate programs. Paper 1 is conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering courses offered by NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), and institutions or universities recognized and funded by participating State Governments. It also serves as the qualifying examination for JEE Advanced, which is required for admission to the IITs.

Table of Contents
Paper 2 is conducted for admission to Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) and Bachelor of Planning (B.Planning) programs across the country. For admissions to the upcoming academic session, JEE Main 2026 will be held in two sessions, providing candidates with multiple opportunities to improve their performance and secure admission to their preferred institutions.
The JEE (Main) Paper 1 score is primarily used for admission to B.E. and B.Tech programs. In addition, several institutions also consider JEE Main scores for admission to other courses such as Integrated M.Sc., Integrated M.Tech., Integrated B.Tech-MBA programs, Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.), Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), and various other undergraduate programs.
JEE (Main) 2026 will be conducted in two sessions to provide students with greater flexibility and multiple opportunities to improve their scores. The Session 1 examination for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) is scheduled to be held between January and last week of January 2027 while Session 2 is tentatively planned between First week of April and April 2027.
The two-session format has been designed to minimize any overlap with Class 12 Board examinations, which are conducted at different times across various States and Union Territories. Similarly, JEE (Main) Paper 2A (B.Arch) and Paper 2B (B.Planning) will also be conducted twice, in January and April 2026, giving aspirants multiple chances to secure their best possible score.

JEE Main 2026 Session 1 & Session 2 Registration Process
The National Testing Agency (NTA) allows candidates to register for JEE Main 2026 Session 1 (January 2026) and Session 2 (April 2026) separately.
Candidates can apply for Session 1 (January 2026) during the initial registration period and pay the examination fee accordingly.
A separate application window will be opened later for Session 2 (April 2026). Candidates who have already registered for Session 1 can log in using their existing application number and pay the required fee to appear in Session 2.
Candidates who do not wish to appear in Session 1 can directly register for Session 2 when the Session 2 application form becomes available.
The registration schedule, application window dates, and fee payment details for Session 2 will be announced through the official Information Bulletin and a separate public notice issued by NTA.
This two-session system provides students with greater flexibility and an opportunity to improve their performance by appearing in either one or both sessions of JEE Main 2026.

Method of Determining Merit
Raw scores obtained in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry are converted into NTA Scores (Percentile Scores). The overall merit list is prepared by combining the NTA Scores of candidates from all shifts and both examination sessions. Candidates who appear in both sessions are generally considered based on their best performance as per NTA guidelines.
JEE Main 2026 Tie-Breaking Rules
If two or more candidates obtain the same Total NTA Score, the tie will be resolved in the following sequence:
Paper 2 A
For JEE Main 2027 Paper 2A (B.Arch), the Mathematics and Aptitude Test sections are conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode, while the Drawing Test is held offline and must be attempted on an A4-size drawing sheet.
| Subject | Number of Questions | Marks |
| Part I: Mathematics | 20 (Section A) + 5 (Section B) = 25 | 100 |
| Part II: Aptitude Test | 50 | 200 |
| Part III: Drawing Test | 2 | 100 |
| Total | 77 | 400 |
In Part I (Mathematics), Section A consists of 20 MCQs, while Section B contains 5 numerical-value questions. Negative marking applies to both sections. For numerical questions, candidates must enter the answer using the on-screen numeric keypad, and the answer should be rounded to the nearest integer.
Marking Scheme for 2 A
| Question Type | Response | Marks |
| MCQs | Correct Answer Incorrect Answer / Multiple Answers Marked Unanswered / Marked for Review | 4 -1 0 |
| Numerical Value Questions | Correct Answer Incorrect Answer Unanswered / Marked for Review | 4 -1 0 |
| Drawing Test (Part III) | Two Drawing Questions | 100 Marks Total |
Paper 2B (B. Planning)
Part-I: Mathematics, Part-II: Aptitude Test, and Part-III: Planning- Based Questions in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.
| Subject | Number of Questions | Marks |
| Part I: Mathematics | 20 (Section A) + 5 (Section B) = 25 | 100 |
| Part II: Aptitude Test | 50 | 200 |
| Part III: Planning-Based Questions | 25 | 100 |
| Total | 100 | 400 |
Marking Scheme
| Question Type | Response | Marks |
| MCQs | Correct Answer Incorrect Answer / Multiple Answers Marked Unanswered / Marked for Review | 4 -1 0 |
| Numerical Value Questions | Correct Answer Incorrect Answer Unanswered / Marked for Review | 4 -1 0 |
The merit for JEE Main 2026 B.Planning will be determined by converting the raw scores obtained in Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Planning-Based Questions into NTA Scores (Percentiles). The final merit list will be prepared by combining the NTA Scores of candidates across all shifts and both examination sessions.
