Secrets to crack UPSC exams

Cracking the UPSC exam is the dream of youngsters who aspires to become IAS officer, PCOs, and IPS. Imagination takes minutes to see your dreams fulfilled but reality demands hard work, focus and consistency. It’s really nice that in today’s time, youngsters want to achieve heights of success in IT, marketing and other modern lines, still there are some who choose to serve the country and its people. But as the saying says, “Nothing comes easy as life is not the bed of roses. Hard work is mandatory, along with that follow the given tips, they would definitely help students notch up success in the UPSC exams:

1. Know your syllabus:

The syllabus is the first thing you must give priority to while preparing for UPSC exams. A good understanding of the UPSC syllabus and exam pattern provides the scope for a focused vision. Understand the prescribed syllabus given by the UPSC which is bifurcated into three stages: Preliminary stage, Mains and Interview. Allocate a timeline covering all important topics.

2. Work on your basics:

UPSC exams are more about the basics of various subjects like – History, Geography, Ecology, Politics, Biodiversity and Environment. Out of overconfidence, few candidates jump into preparation for mains and tend to ignore prelims preparation.  Don’t do that, equal importance should be given to the preliminary examination. 3. Prepare Notes:

It’s better to prepare notes side by side you cover the topics because a few days before the UPSC exams, there is only a rush–rush movement. Even More, the strategy of note making is always better, as you can get everything to learn at a single place and study efficiently with quick methods.

4. Practice Mock test papers:

Solving previous years’ question papers for UPSC exams increases accuracy and speed. It provides the opportunity to focus on time management and have a clear idea of the paper. Accordingly, you may decide which section to be attempted first.

5. Proper sleep and Diet:

Nutritious food strengthens your mind and junk food makes it dull. So, you know what’s better for you? Have lots of green vegetables and citrus food, it helps improve grasping power and boosts memory. Also, make sure that you are having enough sleep.  A sound sleep keeps you fresh the whole day and pushes you to study with interest.

6. Strategize your studies:

Categorize all your topics judiciously as given:

  • Geography: Focus on physical geography and maps. Atlas is the best book to approach for this.
  • History: Be it ancient history, medieval history or modern history, cover all topics.
  • General awareness: Start reading newspapers and guidebooks to embrace general topics.
  • Current Affairs: Going through at least two standard newspapers (1English and the other, a vernacular) will keep you abreast of the current events.
  • CSAT: This section covers the vast portion from comprehension, logical reasoning to the basic numeracy.

7. Have utmost faith in yourself:

In conclusion, but not least, you must be brimmed with confidence that you have the potential to crack the UPSC examination. Sincerely, follow your timeline; don’t jump into new topics a few days before the exam, and be around positive people, people who motivate you. At the same time, dig into your weaknesses and root out them one by one.
