The candidates is two opportunities to appear in JEE Advanced entrance test IIT in consecutive years. IIT Kanpur this year organizer of JEE Advanced announced recently to increase the number of attempts from two to three.

But this decision by IIT Kanpur did not go well with JAB and they reversed the decision to two and IIT Kanpur had to issue the press release regarding this.
Though the decision was a welcome to the students who dreams of cracking the JEE advanced for IIT admission.
Earlier the decision taken by IIT Kanpur was in tandem with the Joint Admission Board (JAB) had previously announced that candidates could attempt the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced up to three times in consecutive years. Under the updated eligibility criteria, candidates who appeared for JEE Advanced in 2024 can attempt the exam again in 2025.
But candidates who participated in JEE Advanced in 2023 or earlier are no longer eligible for the 2025 exam. All other eligibility criteria remain unchanged, as stated in the latest notification.
Decision was reversed
“The Joint Admission Board (JAB) has reversed the decision and decided to restore the earlier eligibility criterion used in previous years. The press release issued by JAB is -The Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to restore the earlier eligibility criterion used in previous years pertaining to number of attempts in JEE (Advanced), in supersession of the criterion mentioned in Press Release dated November 05, 2024. This has been done after considering various competing requirements in the meeting of JAB held on November 15, 2024. This has resulted in restoring the earlier eligibility criteria followed since 2013. All other eligibility criteria remain same. For further details please refer to the website https://jeeadv.ac.in .
It is a setback for the candidates who were hoping to make to the IIT in their third attempt.. Many of these students expressed their disappointment, as they had already begun preparations, only to find their eligibility revoked.
