Eligibility Criteria and Restrictions for IIT Kanpur Olympiad Admission 2026
Candidates seeking admission through the Olympiad channel must satisfy all of the following eligibility requirements.
Criterion 1: Age Requirement
Applicants should have been born on or after October 1, 2001.
Candidates belonging to the SC, ST, or PwD categories are eligible for a relaxation of five years in the age limit. Such candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1996.
Criterion 2: Class XII (or Equivalent) Qualification
Candidates must have appeared for their Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2025 or 2026.
In addition, they must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as compulsory subjects at the qualifying examination level.
Criterion 3: Olympiad Eligibility
Applicants must satisfy the Olympiad-specific eligibility requirements prescribed for the programme to which they are applying. The detailed eligibility conditions for each department are provided in Table 1 of the admission brochure.
Criterion 4: Admission Restrictions
Candidates are not eligible for admission through the Olympiad channel if they have previously been admitted to any academic programme at an IIT that is covered under the JoSAA 2026 Business Rules, irrespective of whether:
- They continued in the programme, or
- They accepted an IIT seat through online reporting or reporting at a designated centre.
Furthermore, candidates whose admission to any IIT was cancelled after joining the institute, for any reason, are also ineligible to apply through the Olympiad admission route.
Simultaneous Allotment through JoSAA and Olympiad Channel
If a candidate receives:
- One seat through JoSAA allotment 2026, and
- Another seat through the Olympiad admission channel,
the candidate must withdraw from one of the allotted seats on or before 13 July 2026, 5:00 PM.
Failure to relinquish either seat by the specified deadline will result in the Olympiad supernumerary seat not being confirmed, and the candidate may lose IIT Kanpur Olympiad Admission 2026.
