VNIT Nagpur MTech Institute Admission 2026: Application Process and Candidate Categories

Group A – GATE Qualified Candidates

Candidates who satisfy the prescribed educational eligibility criteria and possess a valid GATE score (equal to or above the qualifying/cut-off marks) are eligible for admission to stipendiary (assistantship) seats in the respective M.Tech. programmes.

These candidates must register through the Centralized Counselling for VNIT Nagpur MTech Institute Admission 2026 and submit their programme preferences as per the CCMT schedule.

Even after participating in CCMT, Group A candidates may also apply separately for the Institutional Spot Round (ISR) conducted by VNIT Nagpur against vacant seats, if any, after the completion of CCMT Phase III (National Spot Round).

Group B – Non-GATE Candidates

Group B includes candidates who satisfy the required educational qualifications but:

  • Did not qualify the GATE examination, or
  • Did not appear for GATE.

Candidates awaiting the final result of the qualifying degree may also apply. However, they must satisfy all eligibility requirements and submit the final qualifying degree results on or before 30 September 2026.

After completion of all CCMT counselling rounds for Group A candidates, VNIT Nagpur will conduct Institutional Spot Round admissions for vacant seats (if available), except for M.Tech. in Computer Science & Engineering.

Important Notes

  • Group B candidates cannot apply for M.Tech. (Computer Science & Engineering).
  • Candidates must appear for the written test as per the prescribed schedule.
  • Group B candidates are not eligible for GATE assistantship (stipend).

Group C – Sponsored Candidates

Sponsored candidates must satisfy the prescribed educational qualifications and are classified into the following categories:

Group C1

Candidates sponsored by:

  • Central Government Ministries
  • State Government Departments
  • Government R&D Organizations
  • Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)

Group C2

Candidates from industries or private educational institutions possessing a valid GATE score.

Group C3

Candidates from industries or private educational institutions without a valid GATE score or who did not appear for the GATE examination.

Eligibility Conditions

All sponsored candidates must:

  • Have at least two years of full-time work experience after obtaining the qualifying degree.
  • Be employed in a registered industry, company, educational institution, research organization, Government department, or autonomous body.
  • Submit the prescribed Sponsorship-cum-Experience Certificate along with the application form.

Additional Information

  • Group C3 candidates must appear for the written test.
  • Preference for admission will be given in the following order:
  1. Group C1
  2. Group C2
  3. Group C3
  • Up to five non-stipendiary sponsored seats are available in each programme except Environmental Engineering.
  • Sponsored seats in Environmental Engineering are reserved under the Government of India, Ministry of Urban Development (CPHEEO Scheme).
  • If eligible Group C1 applicants exceed the available seats, selection will be based on marks/CGPA obtained in the final year of the qualifying degree.

After making the payment:

  • Note the VNIT Payment Reference Number.

  • Carry a printed payment receipt while reporting for the Institutional Spot Round.
