Selection Process

RRB Technician Recruitment Selection Process

Candidates must submit their applications only through the online mode on the official website of their chosen Railway Recruitment Board (RRB). A candidate can apply to only one RRB for each pay level, and submitting multiple applications for the same pay level to different RRBs will result in the rejection of all such applications.

The RRB Technician 2026 recruitment process consists of three stages:

  1. Computer-Based Test (CBT)
  2. Document Verification (DV)
  3. Medical Examination (ME)

Details regarding the examination date, time, and venue will be communicated through the official RRB websites, SMS, and registered email ID. Requests for changes in the examination date, shift, or test centre will not be entertained under any circumstances.

Document Verification RRB Technician Recruitment

RRB Technician 2026 Document Verification (DV)

Candidates will be shortlisted for Document Verification (DV) based on their performance and merit in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the respective pay levels. The number of candidates called for DV will generally be equal to the number of vacancies.

If two or more candidates secure the same marks in the CBT, the older candidate will be given a higher rank. If the candidates are of the same age, the tie will be resolved based on the alphabetical order of the candidate’s first name (given name).

During the Document Verification process, candidates must produce all original documents and certificates in support of their eligibility, educational qualifications, age, category, and other claims made in the application form. No additional time will be provided for submitting original documents. Failure to produce the required documents on the scheduled date may result in the cancellation of the candidature.

Selection is also subject to qualifying the prescribed Medical Examination, verification of original documents, and verification of the candidate’s character and antecedents.

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) may also utilize candidates lower in the merit list if vacancies remain unfilled or due to other administrative requirements. However, this does not guarantee appointment for such candidates.

It is important to note that the RRBs only recommend the names of selected candidates. The final appointment letters are issued by the respective Railway Administrations after completing all verification formalities.

Medical Examination RRB Technician Recruitment

Candidates must undergo a medical fitness examination conducted by the Railway Administration. The required medical standard depends on the post. Only medically fit candidates are considered for final appointment.

Medical Appeal for RRB Technician 2026

Candidates who are declared medically unfit for all posts under a particular pay level may submit one Medical Appeal along with the prescribed fee within the specified time. If accepted, the result of the appeal medical examination will be final and binding, and no further appeals will be allowed.

However, if a candidate is found medically fit for at least one post in the same pay level, they will be allotted that post (subject to merit, eligibility, and vacancy) and cannot request a medical appeal for higher-preference posts with stricter medical standards.

Since different Technician posts have different medical standards (A3, B1, B2, and C1), candidates who are unfit for higher medical categories but fit for lower ones may still be considered for the posts they are medically eligible for.
