Aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the curriculum from the 2024 intake onwards focuses on interdisciplinary learning, innovation, research exposure, and industry readiness. Graduates from these programmes gain opportunities in higher education, research organizations, and leading public and private sector companies.

Undergraduate Programmes Offered

IIST UG 4-Year B.Tech Programmes

  • B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering
  • B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (Avionics)
  • B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science)

IIST UG 5-Year Dual Degree Programme

The Dual Degree Programme spans 10 semesters. After successful completion, students receive:

  • B.Tech in Engineering Physics
    along with
  • Master of Science (MS) or Master of Technology (M.Tech) in a specialized stream.

Available Postgraduate Streams

Students are allotted one of the following streams after the sixth semester based on academic performance and preference:

  • Master of Science in Astronomy and Astrophysics
  • Master of Science in Solid State Physics
  • M.Tech in Earth System Science
  • M.Tech in Optical Engineering

The number of seats available in each stream is announced during the sixth semester.

Important Note on Dual Degree Programme

There is no direct exit option with only a B.Tech degree in Engineering Physics. However, students with unsatisfactory academic performance may be allowed to exit with a B.Tech degree in Engineering Physics, subject to approval by the institute authorities and prescribed academic norms.

IIST Admission Process

Admission to undergraduate and dual degree programmes at Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology is based entirely on merit secured in the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced.

Candidates must:

  • Qualify JEE Advanced
  • Meet the minimum marks criteria prescribed by IIST in Class XII and JEE Advanced
  • Complete the online counselling and admission process conducted by IIST

Important Notes

Economically Weaker Section (EWS)

For the academic year 2026–27, 10% of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the EWS category in accordance with Government directives.

SSSJKL (PM-USPY)

Supernumerary seats are available under the Special Scholarship Scheme for students from the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojana (PM-USPY). Admissions under this category are handled by the AICTE SSSJKL Cell.

Women Supernumerary Seats

To encourage greater participation of women in science and engineering, IIST provides 10% additional supernumerary seats exclusively for female candidates

Students graduating from Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology receive excellent career opportunities in both government and private sectors.

Based on vacancies announced by Indian Space Research Organisation and the Department of Space (DoS), eligible students may be considered for recruitment as Scientist/Engineer ‘SC’, subject to fulfilling the prescribed criteria.

Boarding & Lodging Charges

For Summer Internship 2026, no fellowship will be provided. However, interns can avail hostel and mess facilities at nominal rates, subject to room availability.
