In a major boost to Assam’s dairy sector, the first international consignment of 5,627 litres of Purabi Ice Cream has been exported to Bhutan. The shipment was flagged off by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati on July 28, 2026.
Manufactured by West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Limited (WAMUL) and marketed by North East Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), the ice cream will be supplied to major Bhutanese cities including Thimphu, Paro, Phuentsholing, and Wangdue. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the export by assisting with documentation, regulatory compliance, and market access. The initiative is expected to expand export opportunities, strengthen Assam’s dairy industry, and increase income for thousands of dairy farmers in the region.
Purabi Dairy is the flagship dairy brand of West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Limited (WAMUL). WAMUL is promoted under the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and the Government of Assam as part of the Operation Flood/Flood Programme cooperative model. The products are marketed and exported by North East Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), a joint venture established by NDDB and the Government of Assam.
