IIT Roorkee Wins National Recognition for Excellence in 5G Innovation
IIT Roorkee has been honoured by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, under the 100 5G Use Case Labs Gradation Framework (January–June 2026) for its outstanding contribution to strengthening India’s 5G innovation ecosystem.
At the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) Review Meeting held on July 28, 2026, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, the institute received two prestigious national awards:
- 3rd Prize – Overall Excellence
- 2nd Prize – Engagement Excellence
The awards were presented by Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of Communications and Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, in the presence of Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, along with senior officials from the Department of Telecommunications.
The recognition highlights the significant work being carried out by AMRIT Lab (Advanced Mobile and Radio Infrastructure for Telecom Lab) at IIT Roorkee. Established under the 100 5G Use Case Labs Initiative, the lab focuses on research and development in next-generation wireless technologies, including 5G and 6G, through innovation, prototyping, student training, startup incubation, and industry partnerships.
IIT Roorkee was recognised for its efforts in developing indigenous telecom technologies, building advanced testbeds and prototypes, training skilled professionals in wireless communication, fostering collaboration with startups, MSMEs, academic institutions, and industry, and promoting technology transfer to strengthen India’s telecom ecosystem.
The institute expressed gratitude to the Department of Telecommunications, faculty members, researchers, students, collaborators, and industry partners for their continued support. IIT Roorkee stated that the recognition reinforces its commitment to advancing indigenous telecom technologies and contributing to India’s vision of becoming a global leader in 6G innovation.
