Endoscope, ₹11,000 and a Leaked Paper: IGKV Professor Arrested: IGKV Question Paper Leak
The police has arrested professor and five students in connection with the alleged leak of BSc agriculture paper. . The case has raised concerns over examination security and the integrity of university assessments.
How the paper leaked?
According to the report, the accused professor allegedly ed an endoscopic camera to photograph the question paper after secretly obtaining it from a sealed envelope. The question paper was reportedly sold to three students for ₹11,000 and subsequently shared with other students.
The incident came to light after the second-year BSc Agriculture Entomology examination was cancelled on August 20, following information received by the university that the question paper had been circulated before the scheduled test. The examination had been scheduled from 10 am to 1 pm on August 28 for students of agriculture colleges affiliated with IGKV.
Professor Among Six Arrested
Police acted on the complaint and arrested the accused within 36 hours. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Cyber) Smruti Rajanala said investigators examined the leaked question paper, screenshots, photographs, messages and social-media communications to trace how the paper was circulated.
Investigators subsequently arrested Yogesh Sonkesariya, a professor at Bharti Agriculture College in Durg, along with five students. The students identified in the report include Ajay Nayak, 20; Trilokdev Patel, 22; Anuj Mingi, 22; and Aditya Sahu. The report states that another student was also arrested in connection with the case.
How the Question Paper Was Allegedly Leaked
According to the complaint filed by N R Rangare, senior scientist and in-charge of IGKV’s undergraduate examination cell, an email was received by the Agriculture College and Research Centre in Kawardha at around 8:41 am on August 20, alleging that the examination paper had been leaked.
University officials reportedly received a similar email shortly afterwards. Students and their representatives also alerted university authorities through WhatsApp, informing them that purported questions from the examination paper were being circulated.
Police subsequently registered a case against unidentified persons under the Chhattisgarh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2008, along with Section 316 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to criminal breach of trust.
The professor allegedly sold the captured question paper for ₹11,000 to Ajay Nayak and two other students. The questions were then reportedly shared with additional students.
Examination Cancelled After Leak
Following the leak allegations, IGKV cancelled the examination scheduled for August 28. The incident highlights the importance of strict safeguards while printing, transporting and storing examination papers.
The university and police are continuing their investigation to determine the complete chain of people involved in obtaining and circulating the paper. Authorities are also examining digital evidence, including messages, photographs and social-media communications.
The case is likely to draw attention to examination security measures at universities and colleges, particularly the need to prevent unauthorised access to question papers before examinations. Students affected by the cancellation are expected to await further instructions from the university regarding the revised examination schedule.
