Tezpur University was established on January 21, 1994, by an Act of Parliament of India,. The University is located at Napaam, about 15 km east of Tezpur town in the Sonitpur District of Assam. The University is awarded the prestigious Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) Awards for its innovative ideas.
Each academic programme of the University is comprised of a set of Courses, some of which are core and others are elective. There are two types of elective courses – (1) Discipline specific electives (DSE) offered by the Department which are specific to the programme; and (2) Generic or open electives which are to be chosen by the students of other Departments. The University follows the choice-based system of UGC for all programmes except for engineering which follows the AICTE model. The Courses across the Departments are designed in such a way that multiple teaching pedagogies can be incorporated into delivering the contents of a Course.
Tezpur University has entered into a multilevel collaborative deal with Queen‘s University, Belfast, one of the oldest and top-ranking Universities in the world under which young faculties and research scholars will benefit academically.
