New Delhi: Cheap covid-19 testing kit developed by IIT Delhi, which is approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Briefing on the development the IIT-Delhi professor V Perumal said, “We started working on it by the end of January and got it ready in three months. The purpose was to contribute to low-cost diagnostics.”
it is a swab test kit.
“Testing will be cheaper than all existing equipment,” he said, adding that the equipment is inexpensive for commercial production.
The ICMR on Thursday approved the detection assay for COVID-19, developed by researchers at the Kusuma School of Biological Sciences (KSBS) of IIT-Delhi.
An IIT statement, “The assay has been validated in ICMR with sensitivity and 100 per cent specificity. This makes IIT-Delhi the first academic institution to have a real-time PCR-based diagnostic assay.
