SSC Selection Post XII syllabus and preparation tips- The application process will start on 1 February. It is important that candidates start early preparation for this and practice so that they can crack the exam. We have provided the syllabus of Selection Post XII below-:
A comprehensive understanding of grammar, including parts of speech, tenses, voice, narration, articles, and prepositions, is essential in English. Additionally, proficiency in vocabulary, encompassing synonyms, antonyms, idioms, phrases, one-word substitution, and spelling errors, is crucial. Proficiency in reading comprehension involves the ability to comprehend and answer questions based on given passages. Tasks like sentence completion, para jumbles, error spotting, and grasping the meaning of phrases or idioms in context are also integral. Cloze tests, involving filling in blanks in a passage to complete meaning, are part of language proficiency evaluation.

● The mathematics section covers various topics, such as arithmetic (number system, percentage, ratio, proportion, interest, profit and loss, time and work, time and distance), algebra (basic identities, equations), geometry (basic concepts, triangles, circles, polygons, measurement), trigonometry (ratios, identities, heights and distances), measurement (area, volume), and statistics & data interpretation (collection, representation, graphs, charts, tables). Miscellaneous topics include partnership, discounts, mixtures, allegations, and time and work.
● General Science- incorporates physics, chemistry, biology, and environmental science. History encompasses ancient, mediaeval, and modern Indian history, as well as world history. Geography covers Indian and world geography, including physical, political, and economic aspects. Polity focuses on the Indian constitution, governance, political system, Panchayati Raj, public policy, and rights issues. Economics includes basic concepts, economic development, planning, poverty, inclusion, demographics, and social sector initiatives. ● Reasoning comprises verbal reasoning (statement and conclusion, assumption, inference, passage conclusions), non-verbal reasoning (series, analogy, classification, coding-decoding, matrix, paper cutting and folding, mirror image, water image), logical reasoning (syllogism, blood relations, seating arrangement, puzzles, direction sense, ranking), data sufficiency (analysing given data to answer questions), and miscellaneous tasks like alphabet and number tests, decision-making, input-output, and word formation.
Tips to attempt the question paper to maximise the possibility of selection.
1. There should be an order to attempt the questions in the Examination and it should be
English, GS, Reasoning, & Maths.
2. Try to make the least mistakes because there is a negative mark in this examination of 0.25 marks.
3. Practice is the key, here are some sources through which you can practice well for your exams.
For English –
For the cloze test, vocabulary -Read the newspaper (editorial) daily, and try to find out the meaning, antonyms, and synonyms of that word.
● Clear your concepts of Grammar (Parts of speech, tenses, voice, narration, articles, prepositions.
● Refer to “English for General Competitions” by Neetu Singh or “Objective English” by SP Bakshi.
● Solve Previous Year Questions of at least 5 years.
For Mathematics –
● The best way to clear your concepts for Mathematics or to have good preparation for Mathematics, Practice is the key.
● For good preparation in Mathematics you can refer the book named as “SSC Mathematics by Rakesh Yadav”.
● To score more marks in Mathematics try to solve Previous Year Question of at least 5 years.
For GS-
● SSC covers most of its questions of GS from the current happening or current affairs, so try to cover Current Affairs on a daily basis.
● Try to remember the current affairs of at least 6 months.
● Topics that cover 70% of the GS are Awards, Person in News, Sports News, Newly elected Personalities, any new finding, GI Tags, any place added to any list, Ranking and index, Place in news, Defence and research, referred book for CA – General Knowledge by Manohar Pandey.
The rest 40% of the GS is to be covered in different subjects like science, History, Polity, Geography, and Economics, and it can be covered from the NCERT books of 6-12 or Lucent’s GK.
For reasoning –
● Reasoning contains a lot of topics and the best way to get good marks in reasoning is to practise.
● Practise the Previous Year Questions of 5 years
● For reasoning refer to “A Modern Approach to Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning”
